If you have dentures and they are meeting your expectations, you may think that your main concern is just to keep them clean. As a result, you will skip your yearly visit to a denturist in BC. However, going to a denturist every year is essential. Here’s why:

Oral Health

Your dentures need to be checked by your denturist annually to help you maintain good oral health and detect any possible issues. During the checkup, the denturist will check the tissue beneath your dentures, including your oral mucosa, lips, and tongue. The denturist will check for any changes in these tissues. Sometimes, abnormal changes cannot be seen by the naked eye, but your denturist can detect them.

According to studies, oral health has a direct impact on overall health. Inflammation because of serious gum disease and oral bacteria may contribute to the development of other diseases. A yearly visit with a denturist can detect issues and reduce risk. 

Longevity

When you visit your denturist, you will undergo a detailed examination of your dentures. This examination is performed both visually and digitally. Your denturist will check the dentures’ stability and your bite as well as find signs of ill-fitting dentures. If the denturist finds any anomalies, they will recommend treatment to maintain, renew, or repair the dentures. Also, they will recommend procedures to properly care for your denturist. 

Your dentures are supported by your gums and jawbone; however, this can change as you age. Sadly, you may not notice these changes until you have severe issues. And even if you can use denture adhesives for correcting ill-fitting dentures, they do not address the underlying issues.

Over time, dentures will wear down, and you must replace them. However, maintaining them properly will increase their useful life.
