Dental health is often avoided by people these days. Not just dental, but health too, is not taken care of by people. Life has consumed so much time that even for a moment, individuals cannot afford to think about their well-being and own health care. According to research, the main reason one should consult a dentist every three months is the plaque maturation cycle. Dental care should be taken seriously by people. And you should visit your dentist at least once every three months. You can refer to Fort Myers, FL dentist to know more about such reasons.

What is plaque?

Plaque or Dental plaque is nothing but a cluster of microorganisms that tends to grow on the surfaces within one’s mouth. It seems to be a colorless, sticky material in its very early stages. But as it gradually gets deposited/forms tartar, the color is often seen as a brown or pale yellow. Dental plaque can be found between teeth, behind them, in front of them, and on other mouth surfaces. Dental plaque is one of the major reasons for dental decay.

Stages of the plaque maturation cycle

  • Stage one consists of the formation of the Acellular layer. This layer will assimilate salivary glycoproteins, phosphoproteins, and lipids.
  • Stage two consists of the initial attachment of the plaque to the various mouth surfaces.
  • The third stage is the continuation of the second and is called irreversible attachment.
  • Fourth comes maturation. Here the early colonizers have caused more dental plaque complexity due to their presence from the very beginning.
  • The fifth stage is called late maturation. Here the deposition rate of the plaque decreases, and a thick layer of dental plaque is formed.
  • The sixth and last stage is called dispersion. Here the enzymes will allow some of the bacteria to get released and colonize a different sector of the mouth surface.

Why is visiting a dentist timely so important?

As mentioned before, plaque formation can be a reason for dental decay. Even if you opt to brush your teeth twice a day, you might not be able to remove the plaque from your mouth completely. Thus visiting your dentist becomes essential. They will clean up your teeth and remove plaque from the mouth surface, thus preventing further decay.

Conclusion

Dental health should not be ignored and should be taken care of. Dental care is no joke and should be consulted by professionals. Timely dental care visits can give a sturdy lifespan to your teeth.
